Mandarin / Chinese-Speaking Therapy
心理咨询(普通话)| Mandarin Therapy for Chinese-Speaking Individuals
Sometimes the experiences that shape us most deeply are difficult to express in a second language.
Language carries culture, family relationships, memories, values, and ways of understanding ourselves and the world. For many Chinese-speaking individuals, there are emotions, experiences, and parts of identity that simply feel easier to explore in Mandarin.
As a native Mandarin speaker who grew up in mainland China and later lived, studied, and worked across multiple cultural contexts, I provide psychotherapy in Mandarin, English, or a combination of both languages.
Whether you are seeking support for mental health concerns, navigating life transitions, or exploring questions of identity and belonging, therapy can provide a space where you do not need to translate important parts of yourself in order to be understood.
Common Concerns
Many Chinese-speaking clients seek therapy for:
Anxiety and depression
Stress and burnout
Relationship difficulties
Family conflict
Perfectionism and self-criticism
Immigration and acculturation stress
Loneliness and isolation
Career and academic pressure
Identity exploration
Life transitions and uncertainty
Cultural and Family Expectations
Many Chinese and immigrant families place strong emphasis on responsibility, achievement, family harmony, and sacrifice. While these values can be sources of strength, they can also create significant pressure and internal conflict.
You may find yourself struggling with questions such as:
How do I honor my family while remaining true to myself?
Why do I feel guilty when setting boundaries?
Why does success never seem to feel like enough?
How do I navigate different cultural expectations?
Where do I truly belong?
Therapy can provide a space to explore these questions with curiosity, compassion, and cultural understanding.
Therapy for Chinese LGBTQ+ Clients
Many Chinese LGBTQ+ individuals navigate unique challenges at the intersection of culture, family, sexuality, gender, and community.
You may be:
Exploring your sexual orientation or gender identity
Navigating the coming out process
Managing family expectations around marriage and children
Experiencing minority stress or discrimination
Struggling with shame, secrecy, or self-acceptance
Seeking greater authenticity and connection
As both a psychologist and a longtime advocate and researcher focused on LGBTQ+ mental health, I understand many of the cultural complexities that Chinese LGBTQ+ individuals face.
Therapy can offer a supportive and affirming space to explore these experiences while cultivating self-acceptance, resilience, and hope.
My Approach
I approach therapy through a relational, psychodynamic, multicultural, and mindfulness-informed lens.
Together, we can explore how your personal history, relationships, culture, and social environment have shaped your experiences and sense of self. My goal is not to tell you who you should become, but to help you better understand yourself and move toward a life that feels more authentic, meaningful, and connected.
I strive to create a therapeutic space where all parts of your identity—including culture, language, sexuality, gender, spirituality, and family experiences—are welcomed and respected.
Therapy Can Help You
Develop greater self-understanding and self-compassion
Navigate family and cultural expectations
Improve relationships and communication
Heal from trauma and painful life experiences
